NYC Restauarnt Week - Gaonnuri
When I first when to Seoul, I was surprsied at the food. I considered myself pretty wordly, but eight years ago I was truly clueless about Korean food. In the years since my first trip, I have enjoyed my trips to Seoul more, knowing more about the food and being able to enjoy the fiery hot flavors, not to mention having my life totally changed with my discovery of Gochujang which is a spicy fermented chilli paste. The paste part is what sets is aside from a Chili Sambal which is more Thai and is full of chili flakes and is more vinegary flavor.
Because NYC can be full of super cheap and expensive eats, I always try to take advantage of NYC Restuarant Week to explore new neighborhoods and restaurants. This year I was able to snag a lunch table at Gaonnuri, the Koreatown space 39 floors above the hustle of the hot city streets. The view is incredible, offering impressive sights throughout the restaurant. Loved the lunch menu from the Japchae as an appetizer, a hot stone bowl of spicy pork bibimbap and ending with a pineapple panna cotta and a passion fruit sorbet. An incredible lunch for $29. Food was excellent and the view only added to the experience. I can't wait to go back soon!
