Broadway Bites

Broadway Bites

Sadly, Broadway Bites is almost over this Summer, leaving me left wondering how I will survive the mediocre food dessert of Herald Square until it returns in October. This year, the food market in Greeley Square had lots of new vendors including Raclette. I am completely in love with their Alpine Dog, a all pork sausage covered in cheese, Dijon, cornichons and scallions. A really perfect balance made even better with their "Swiss Lemonade" for $3. What is Swiss Lemonade you ask (I did)? It is actually a limeade and is insanely delicious. I just finished one, and I am almost tempted to go grab another, it was that good.

What is Raclette beyond my basic description as a funky cheese, melted and scraped over something (usually potatoes)? Here is the perfect definition from Wikipedia:

Raclette /rəˈklɛt/ is a semi-hard cow’s milk cheese that is usually fashioned into a wheel of about 6 kg (13 lb). It is most commonly used for melting. It is also a Swiss dish based on heating the cheese and scraping off (racler) the melted part.
